I never met the legend of the lake,I can recall all the stories of a kind hearted man who helped his fellow angler at all times,he will not be forgotten.

This early morning, going over and commenting to my wife about this post she said,
"For sure he is fishing in heaven right now."
After a split second and recalling Shane's passion for icefishing I said,
"Mmmmm... I don't think so. He is just counting the days for the start of the hardwater season."
Although not a man of wealth, Shane was an incredibly generous individual in all aspects of life; even more important, he was a happy man and shared that happiness with anyone along his path.
What a great example of a unique and positive personality!!!!!

I met the man twice.
The first time was about 5yrs ago. He took us out to slyville for whities.
I was so impressed with the way he spent the time to explain some techniques to us.
He seemed to honestly care about the lake and the people fishing it.
I can still see that little 4x4 cruising back and forth some shore to slyville.
Just wondering how many fisher people he helped along the way, in so may ways.
I wish I got to know him better as I believe we would have become good friends.
Rest in piece.

I am the guy third on the left in the floater pants. Went to college with the guy who ran Smokies. Good group of guys out there that day, and it sure was a pig poke! Maybe we will meet again someday!

Sly (Shane) is the guy in the last photo holding the laker. He died of throat cancer.

RIP to Shane. I fished with him a few times both on the hard and soft water. Always in a good mood, always helpful, always smiling, and always with a good story or 20 to tell. He was one of a kind. Selfless to his fellow anglers and would give the shirt off his back for anyone who needed help. I know some of the guys who have posted on this thread (Finny, Troutslayer) and have fished with some of them and will do so again, but there are few people who were as good to the lake and the anglers as Sly was. God bless brother.

Every year as hardwater season starts I think of Shane and Donna. I met Sly at a Meet and Greet thatwas held a few years ago. We worked on a big sleigh that he used to transport people out to the M&G that did not have their own transport.
I had read about Sly on the board but had not met him. When I did meet him it was like we were old friends and he told me about his half and half whitefish killer.
So sad to lose him at such a young age and I wonder how Donna is doing.
The measure of a man is how he is remembered. All I can say is thanks Sly.

I was new to the area had just bought an ATV and was nervous about going out on the lake alone. Somehow not sure exactly but I started talking on the forums with Sly (Shane) before I knew it I was in his house met his wife then helping him fix his truck then out we went. Went out with him and his buddies few times after. Always made you feel like you were friends forever. Gone but not forgotten.
