2011 First Ice Contest
« on: November 29, 2011, 04:14:25 pm »
It's that time! Time to start speculating when we are going to be on the first ice of the year.

Welcome to the first Lake Simcoe Message Board First Ice Contest.

Anyone can join in on the fun as long as you are a member. Here's the rules;

Each contestant has to guess when all three locations have a minimum of 4 inches of black ice. We have chosen one location in Cook's Bay, one on the north shore near the 7th line of Oro, and one on Lake Couchiching off Airport Road. The map can be viewed on the contest page.

In case of a tie names will go into a hat and be drawn.

Please do not wander out on the ice to check the locations. We will start checking as soon as there is enough ice to check by experiance anglers with safty equipment.

The winner will recieve a set of (3) ice rods donated by our sponsors Simax
Other prizes include;
One weekday fish hut rental for (4) from Casey's Port Bolster
2 sets of 2 free admission to the Spring Fishing & Boat Show sponsored by the CSFL
Xzone Pan Slam Baits
Donated by Trapper - Hand carve fish decoy and jigging stick.
.....and more to come!

Here is the link to the contest map and entry page. https://www.lakesimcoemessageboard.com/first_ice_contest_2011.html

All of the contestants will reply to this thread to enter. Remember you must guess all three to win.
All entries must be in by December 15th 2011
One entry per member - you can change your dates up until the 15th.

The Rules; A point system has been implemented where points are added for each wrong day.
Example: a contestant starts with "0" for each location. If the contestant guess say December 30 as the first date and the actual date with 4 inches is on December 29 one day before or 31 one day after, one point will be added. If the prediction is two days off, (2) points will be added. The one with the least number of points wins.

Ok here is my best guess. And only a guess as I don't spend much time on early ice.

Cooks bay Dec 27
Oro Jan 22
Couch Jan 5

Who knows......all I know is not soon enough!

I will guss that cooks bay will freeze with 4 in of ice on Jan 2nd-- The Couch spot at airport rd will be ready with 4 in Jan 3rd    and the spot in Oro I will say Jan 16th  That will get the ball rolling......

Hey Redfish, just to clarify...
                                   is it 3 separate dates, or ONE date when all three of the locations have at least 4" of ice on them?  Meaning if Couch and Cooks have 8" of ice, but Oro only has 3" then the contest is not over until the day that Oro measures 4"  ??  (that's how I interpret the rules)

I'd say it would be pretty close to impossible to get three separate locations and dates correct.

Three separate dates and if none is correct its the closest to the dates. I'm betting there will be more than one who gets it right.

It's not like we give these things a lot of thought. For instance, there maybe 2000 contestants and I might be up nights entering them all. I just thought of that one when I saw 120 people online at the same time and we haven't seen a flake yet  :D

No problem, those predictions are subject to change as the weather does lol!  Normally I am one of the first ones out on two of the three( never fished south of the north end of georgina) but with the record warm temps this November, December has some catching up to do.

I have never been on Couch, so that is strictly a guess, and am going off what every one else says here.  So, with that...

Cooks: Dec. 28
Couch: Dec. 31
Oro: Jan. 10
