K Bay reports

Checked the Barrie area after work to see if anyone ventured out. I seen one hut that was very close to shore at JB. I did not have my safety gear with me, so did not go and check ice conditions. All other areas in the Barrie area were bare of anglers. Those that venture out Saturday morning, step chip and step and chip and be safe . Please report ice conditions here if you go out . I cannot get out til after 12 Saturday. Will check ice condition's at JB and minets for those interested.
Be safe out there.

So as it,s been reported JB is already a zoo. I did not bother going over there to check the ice. I did check Minets and there was any where from 2.5-4 inches. Very good black ice. Checked out from the marina and it was the same.
I walked to my 1st ice spot and it,s 3".

CAUTION
Where cracks have opened and closed, the snow we got Saturday has sunk them a bit. Found spots where it looked ok and there was no ice under the snow.

Found one spot like that at Minets yesterday where a 1.5 foot wide crack was covered in a drift with only a skim of ice. Was fine on both sides of the crack but would have been easy for someone who was not spudding to have gone for a dunk. Found no more than 4 inches everywhere I punched holes.

I accessed from JB yesterday but ventured to deeper water. I punched holes in 46ft 83ft 96ft. I was getting 3" closer to shore of ice and 5" out farther.
The ice is bad under any snow on top. But if it's clear of snow it's 5 " of black clear ice.
If you go out be prepared to go through but if you spud and stay away from thick snow areas it was actually a pleasant walk.
The lakers are MIA. NOT EVEN a mark or chase.
Go figures though 3 sledder went pass me right to HOOTERS.
Grant it they were moving fast and in a straight line and not side by each. But still the combination of this patchy ice and then hooters drinks had me watching them closely.

Spots on the bay still sketchy all. Was on 6" solid where it was bare, but when I poked the old snow covered areas, I was getting 1.5-3 " still. Lets hope for a good freeze up.
Safe walking all.

The bay seems to be holding in the Barrie area . Minets over to Johnsons . Seen a couple of sleds out (not sure I would be doing that ) but to each their own. Blue ice is still a solid 6"+. This weeks cold snap will help a ton tightening things up nice for next weekend ..

Open 50ft hole at Minets Point .
I did not see it til I was about 15 ft away. It blended in with the color of the ice.
