Fished a lake on the north for about 5 hours yesterday from early in the morning till just after noon time, and landed 3 lakers (kept a 3-lb one, and released two smaller ones like 1 lb each)

ha. actually I am saving quite some gas money right now. With my JETTA TDIl, a full tank of 55 litre diesel fuel gives me more than 800KM on highway (at current cost of close to $1.10/litre). Try that with your vehicle:-)

How much ice did you have under foot?

Where I fished, ice is around 6 inches.

TDI is a beautiful machine, I tow a snowmobile with mine and still get 7-8L/100. It's the perfect fishing machine unless you need to tow a boat.
