Very disappointing. It seems they didn't do what they said they would. Again misleading pieces of information. They allowed the police to contradict the MNR safe ice guide, tell people the operators were risking the safety of their customers, without ever having been on the ice in that area.

Why can't they just report the facts

Hang in there John. The 11 PM report may have more content. Hopefully I smile in the next report???

I have honestly never heard a positive report from the police in regards to ice. Totally expected them to do that.

I expect it from the police. They have to take a stance that nothing is ever safe. It was CTV Barrie's job to interpret a balance and they simply failed to do this.

CTV and all the other media are nothing more than Police scanner and ambulance tragedy chasing leeches.  Did you expect anything different?

Disappointing, but expected.  They are not going to contradict their meal ticket... sad!

And the OPP wonder why nobody listens to them. You cant keep crying WOLF! The officer is saying its unsafe meanwhile there's ATVs running in the background. Stop treating us like children.

Here is the link for the Barrie CTV Webcast for January 19th 2013. It starts at 3:00 minutes in. I'm holding up some perch in the beginning of the segment.

I might point out that CTV did change the 11:00 pm version of the story with a positive twist for the operators and would like to work with us on our reports in the future. So I guess I was a little harsh on Casey.

Any news / reporter thrives on providing information that will get them the most attention even if it means exagerating things or makng things seem more serious than they are.

I agree the OPP dont have the facts straight.  Even if there is full coverage on the lake of at least 12" of good ice they will always say it isnt safe but i guess that will never change.  All in all, we as experienced anglers know the facts and it was nice to see John on the news to give the public a different persective from people who know the facts.

Had a similar experience with CTV years ago.
A buddy and myself were the first  anglers to show up to a local conservation lake's ice opener and the park super brought the reporter and camera man to our hut for an interview.
I wasn't feeling the interview. so I declined, but my buddy didn't, lmao!
Anyways, he spent about 20 minutes with them, and was pretty exited to call everyone we know to tell them to watch the news that night.
They cut and edited the interview and made him look ridiculous, I'm still laughing my a$$ off!

Hey Fuzzy. I'm going to blame it on the bright sky and the fact that I had to pee! Lol
It's either that or the fact that I wanted to run away screaming! That camera made my heart race more that getting hit by a 7lb Whitefish at 83'! Lol

I agree with this idea.
John, Maybe you can try to convict one or two reporter from CTV to go with you do test the ice, and show them how safe the ice, so they will not give bad new to scare all people to go and enjoy ice fishing.
